The MomCare Program is administered through the Healthy Start Coalition and is available statewide in Florida. MomCare is a Medicaid funded program which began Dec. 1, 2001, specifically designed for moms-to-be who would not normally be eligible for Medicaid but qualify because of an expansion of the eligibility criteria during pregnancy.

The purpose of the program is to help ensure early prenatal care, thereby producing healthy birth outcomes. The program is implemented through the services of Maternity Care Advisors (MCA) who contact each Medicaid eligible pregnant woman to provide the following services:

Assistance in choosing a prenatal care provider and follow-up to ensure she is able to keep her prenatal appointments.
Nutritional/WIC information, and assistance in applying as needed.
Referral for Healthy Start services and other community resources when the need is identified.
Assistance in choosing a pediatrician prior to delivery and accessing health insurance for the newborn.
Educational information on prenatal care, breastfeeding, child care and safety.
